Calvary Chapel began in the 1960’s in Costa Mesa, California under the leadership of Chuck Smith. What began as a ministry to the younger generation of the 60’s, mainly surfers and hippies in a small Bible study, has grown to a church of 30,000 people in Costa Mesa and worldwide affiliation of churches with over 1000 fellowships around the world.
City Calvary Chapel had its beginning in the summer of 1997. What started out as a small midweek Bible study has developed into a well-established and growing fellowship. City Calvary Chapel is a church plant of Calvary Fellowship. Calvary Fellowship, the first Calvary affiliate in the Puget Sound region, met in the heart of the City of Seattle in the Wallingford district for many years. In purchasing a building and moving to the north, in the city of Mountlake Terrace, Calvary Fellowship desired to keep a Calvary Chapel presence in the city. Hence City Calvary Chapel was birthed and had its first Sunday service on February 1st, 1998.
We moved to our current location in Shoreline in the summer of 2007. We invite you to join us in Shoreline and experience the love of God in & through His community of believers.
Statement of Faith
The sole basis for our belief comes from the Bible in its entirety. It is the inspired, inerrant Word of God and is the final authority on all matters on which it bears. We believe the Bible teaches that there is one infinite and personal God who is eternally existent in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
God created mankind to have a loving relationship with Him, but we defied God by sinfully rejecting Him. As a result, each one of us needs God’s saving grace to end our separation from Him. This grace comes as a result of Jesus Christ, who is both fully God and fully man, dying on the cross and rising from the dead. It was upon the cross He completely paid the price of our sinfulness and is now offering the gift of eternal life. If a person wants to receive this gift, he/she must repent of their sins and trust in Jesus Christ alone for eternal salvation.
We believe Jesus Christ will return to earth again. Until that time, our purpose at City Calvary Chapel is to:
1. Love and serve each other in the Body of Christ; and (Community)
2. Love God and grow in our relationship with Him through worship, prayer, and studying the Bible (Equip)
3. Love the people of our world by sharing the saving message of Christ. (Outreach)
